Fridays Home Improvement Blog Link

Highlighting some of my favorite home improvement/construction blogs.

Through my short experience in blogging about fences in Raleigh, NC., I have started finding some blogs in the home improvement and construction industries that I enjoy reading on a regular basis, and also subscribe to in my reader (I use Google Reader, it is the one I started out with and I like it, so why change).

The task of finding blogs related to home improvement is more difficult than finding blogs about politics, gadgets, blogging, SEO, online marketing, and mostly high tech topics. So, I have a new found respect for bloggers in this niche. While my Google Reader also has subscriptions to Darren Rowse’s ProBlogger, Chris Brogan, Webmaster World, and numerous informational website blogs, I always keep a close eye on my competitor, Scott Pooler. I want to focus every week on Fridays to the blogs I read and discover. We will cover many topics over the coming weeks, this week we will focus on a home improvement blog I subscribe to called Helpful Advice for Home Construction Improvement:

This has become one of my favorite blogs in this niche, and Todd Fratzel has become someone I respect for his writings and for his longevity of sticking with his goals for writing and not giving up on a very tough niche to be a blogger in. I first met Todd on Plurk, and you can find him plurking throughout the day.

Todd is a licensed professional engineer in the states of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He is currently employed by a large construction company as Principal Engineer and project manager for the residential and commercial design-build division.

He also links to many other home improvement sites on his blog, which has helped me find other blogs in this industry.

Some of my favorite posts he has written (there are many to chose from) include: Heating – Propane vs. Oil, My Custom Colonial House Plans, and How To Install Closet Wire Shelves are some of my favorites on his site. If you look through it you will find hundreds of articles on hundreds of different home improvement topics. He also recently posted the Mail Bag where you can email him questions and topics you would like for him to write about, and he will answer it on his blog.
